The time a simple chat about the weather turned into a full-blown town hall debate
I was at the hardware store in Bellingham last Tuesday, just waiting in line. The guy in front of me said to the cashier, 'Looks like rain.' She replied, 'I hope not, my garden needs sun.' Suddenly, three other people in line jumped in with their own forecasts and opinions. It escalated for ten minutes, with people pulling up radar apps and arguing about cloud types. Has anyone else had a casual conversation spiral into a weirdly intense group discussion?

Watched a debate about the best brand of ketchup turn into a full on shouting match at a diner once. I tried to suggest they all just use the bottle on the table and got glared at by both sides, lol. Felt like I accidentally walked into a food based civil war.

Imagine trying to be the peacemaker and getting death stares over tomato paste, @elliotc10. That's when you know people have lost the plot. They're ready to throw hands over Heinz vs. Hunt's while the generic diner bottle just sits there, doing its job. You didn't walk into a food war, you found the only sane person in the room, which was you. Next time just slide the bottle to the middle of the table and walk away slowly.
