My mechanic insisted on replacing the entire brake line assembly on my truck, not just the fitting.

I argued it was overkill, but the corroded line blew a week later on the highway. Anyone else been saved by a stubborn professional's advice?

Honestly, I get why they do it. A mechanic's reputation is on the line if a patch job fails. They probably see the whole system as a liability.

Man, that's wild. So they basically saw the whole line was bad and knew a quick fix wouldn't last? Makes you wonder how often shops see a single bad spot but know the rest of the system is about to go. Like, was it just one rusty fitting, or was the line itself totally weak all the way back?

Yeah, and that's how they avoid callbacks for the same problem later.
