Noticed extra sparks during an iron pour today, what's that about?

Call those bonus fireworks from rushing the prep work. @caseyw12 nailed it with the damp mold theory, turning a pour into a spark show. Treat yourself to a longer drying time next time, unless you really like dodging hot metal?

Yeah, that steam pop is no joke... learned that the hard way myself.

Check if your mold was completely dry before the pour. Wet sand or damp ladles can cause steam explosions, throwing sparks everywhere. It's a good way to keep everyone on their toes, but not great for clean casts. Make sure your charge materials are free of water or oil too. Seen it happen when someone rushes the drying process.
