My sister's friend said my bouquets look 'too perfect' and it got me thinking
She was picking up a wedding order and told me, 'Your work is beautiful, but it looks like a magazine. I miss seeing a flower look a little wild sometimes.' I've been so focused on clean lines and symmetry for the past two years, I forgot about that loose, garden style. Has anyone else had a client comment that pushed them to change their design approach?

Forget what flowers look like?

Start noticing the same thing with how people dress now. Everyone's so worried about looking "put together" that they end up looking like they got assembled in a factory instead of actually wearing clothes. Give me a jacket with a loose thread on the sleeve or a shirt that's faded in weird spots from too many washes. That's what makes it feel like a real person lives in those clothes, not just a mannequin at the mall.

Forget what flowers look like? That's exactly it. You get so good at making things neat you forget how they grow. A real rose has a bent stem, a tulip leaf has a tear. I saw a florist once who'd put a single, kinda broken fern in with a bunch of perfect roses. That one messy bit made the whole thing feel alive, not just arranged.
