Customer told me my seams were too tight - changed everything
Had a homeowner about 6 months ago who used to install carpet back in the 80s. He watched me laying LVP and said I was cramming the planks together too hard. Said to leave a hair of space at the seams for expansion. I ignored him at first because I thought tight seams looked better. Then I got a callback on a job last winter where planks were buckling. Tried his method on the next 3 jobs and zero callbacks. Anyone else get told to loosen up their seams?

Doesn't that go against everything we're taught about tight seams though?

OH NO WAY. That's totally backwards from what I've always heard! Like, my sewing teacher in high school would've fainted if she saw me leaving a 5/8th seam loose lol. She always said tight seams equal strong seams especially on denim or heavy fabrics. But wait, does this mean I've been making my jeans wrong all these years? I literally just finished a pair with the tightest seams possible and now I'm wondering if that's why the crotch always blows out.
