TIL a single CSS property fixed my forum lag on mobile

Spent two hours debugging why my community forum loaded slow on phones, then a random comment suggested adding 'will-change: transform' to the sidebar. It cut the load time from 4 seconds to under 1. Has anyone else seen that simple trick fix weird rendering issues?

Heard a buddy had the same issue on his gaming forum, tried that property and it killed his lag instantly. Crazy how one tiny fix can save hours of frustration.

Wait, are you serious that will-change: transform actually dropped load time by that much? Honestly, that sounds too good to be true for a CSS property. Ngl, I've seen people throw that fix around for animation smoothness but never for actual page load speed. Tbh, that's wild because I always thought will-change was just for telling the browser to prepare for animations, not for speeding up something like a sidebar. Honestly, now I'm tempted to go test it on my own site to see if it actually works like that or if it was just a coincidence.

My own forum was loading like it had to walk through molasses uphill both ways. Slapped that will-change transform on the sidebar after reading a random reddit thread and yeah, it went from painful to snappy almost instantly. A part of me still wonders if it was a placebo or just good timing with some other update, but the numbers don't lie. My phone used to get hot just scrolling past that sidebar, now it acts like a normal webpage. Always feels a little dumb when a one-liner CSS fix beats hours of heavy duty debugging. Your mileage may vary but it's definitely worth a test on your own setup, worst case you just undo it.
