My neighbor convinced me to stop using wood glue on sloppy joints
I used to just fill gaps with extra wood glue when cabinet frames didn't fit tight. Last Tuesday my neighbor Bob watched me do it and said "you're just making a mess for later, use shims and a clamp." I grabbed a pack of plastic shims from Ace Hardware for $4 and now my joints actually line up. Has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit from being impatient?

@sage_perry those plastic shims split on me too, switched to wood ones and never looked back.

Figured I was being efficient too till a buddy pointed out my cabinet doors were all crooked. Switched to shims and clamps and yeah, way less swearing involved now.

Borrowed a feeler gauge set from @elliotc10 after reading this and it made a huge difference. Those cheap plastic shims work fine but you gotta buy the good ones or they split on you. Clamps are a must too, no way around it.
