Swapped my rotary cutter for shears after 2 years of mistakes

Used to cut all my pattern pieces with a rotary cutter on a mat. After I ruined a silk charmeuse drape for a client last month in Portland, a seamstress at the shop told me shears give you way more control on tricky fabrics. Anyone else find rotary cutters overrated for certain materials?

Try trimming your shears slightly open for even MORE control on silk.

Whoa wait, are you serious?! I've been clamping mine shut tight this whole time like an idiot. I had no idea that little gap could make such a huge difference on slippery silk.
