Rant: My friend's 'just keep the change' at a coffee shop turned into a 20 minute argument
He paid for a $4.75 coffee with a $5 bill and told the barista to keep the quarter. I said that's a nice gesture, but it's basically a forced tip that the employee can't even keep. He argued it's just being generous and not overthinking it. Who's right here?

Tell your friend to just buy a pack of gum next time... then he can leave the quarter and actually give the barista something they can use. Arguing for 20 minutes over a gesture that probably just went into a manager's pocket is the real crime here.

Honestly the gum idea is pretty smart. At least then it's a real tip and not just change for the manager. Your friend really picked the weirdest hill to die on.
