My uncle told me to always check the garage at an estate sale in Spokane

He said the good tools and outdoor gear get tucked away out there. I thought he was just being old school, but at a sale on Maple Street last fall, I found a full set of vintage axes in the garage. They were in great shape and I got them for a fair price. Anyone else have a go-to spot they check first at a sale?

Your uncle is a hundred percent right. I always make a beeline for the basement if there is one. Last summer in the Valley, I found a whole wooden crate of old hand tools under the stairs, covered in dust but perfect. People just forget what they put down there.

Basements and garages are gold mines, but don't sleep on the kitchen junk drawer. Found a mint condition, pre-war egg beater in one last month just tossed in with the rubber bands and takeout menus. People treat them like a black hole for anything small and metal. It's a quick check that can pay off.
