TV cops never knock first - drives me nuts

Watching NCIS last night and the team just busts through a door with zero warning. In real life, my neighbor called the cops on a noise complaint and they knocked for like 5 minutes before coming in. Also, they always find the suspect in 45 minutes. Took LAPD 3 days to find a stolen car in my city. Anyone else notice this?

I saw a criminology professor on YouTube talking about this exact thing. He said the whole "knock and announce" rule in real life is way stricter than TV shows it, with cops needing a warrant most times unless they think evidence is being destroyed. Plus that 45 minute solve time is hilarious when you consider the average clearance rate for property crimes is like 12% or something. TV just skips all the boring paperwork and waiting around that takes up 90% of real police work.

Wait 12%? That's literally worse than flipping a coin and guessing. I knew it was low but not that low. @sage_perry your professor wasn't kidding about the paperwork either, my buddy in the force spends more time on forms than actual investigating.
