Got into an argument with my buddy about whether TV characters actually look up phone numbers
We were watching this crime show where the detective just rattles off a phone number from memory after seeing it once on a piece of paper, and my buddy said that's totally possible for some people. But I pointed out how in the same episode, nobody ever pulls out their phone to Google something quick, they just happen to know everything or have a random expert on speed dial. What do you guys think, are we supposed to believe people have photographic memories in shows, or is it just lazy writing skipping the realistic stuff?

The phone number thing bugs me less than how they never have to look up addresses either, like the whole world is memorized. Really it's just lazy writing skipping the boring parts of reality because watching someone scroll through Google Maps for ten seconds would kill the dramatic flow.
