Fell for that dumb TV trick where they grab a random knife and cut an apple without looking

I watched some show where a character sliced an apple in their hand without even glancing down, and it looked so easy. Last weekend I tried it with a paring knife from my drawer, thinking I'd look cool for my wife. Ended up slicing my thumb open 2 inches deep and had to get 4 stitches at urgent care. Cost me $150 copay and a ruined Saturday afternoon. Why do TV characters never bleed when they pull these stunts? Has anyone else tried something they saw on screen and instantly regretted it?

Oh man, I did the same thing with a steak knife and my finger still has a weird scar!
