Okay, hear me out: skipping the sanding step between drywall mud coats has never caused me issues. Everyone acts like it's mandatory, but I save hours.

Yeah, I tried that once to save time. Ended up with visible ridges and a weird texture under the paint that caught the light just wrong. It only takes one little lump in a lower coat to mess up the whole smooth finish.

Try blending it instead.
