That one guy who told me to 'just eyeball' the layout still haunts me

Honestly, I still think about this interaction from like 4 years ago when I was starting out at a small drafting firm in Austin. Some senior guy came over, saw me using a grid and snap settings for a floor plan, and literally said, "Why are you wasting time with all that? Just eyeball it, it's only a shed." I was new and confused, so I shrugged it off. But later the same day, he sent me a marked-up PDF where every wall was off by at least a quarter inch. The lead drafter made me redo the whole thing, and I never listened to that guy again. Has anyone else had some old timer give you advice that was just completely wrong for the work you were doing?

Just eyeball it, it's only a shed" is the kind of advice that gets someone fired or at least a real nasty call from a customer. A quarter inch off on a shed is still a quarter inch too much, especially when you're the one who has to fix it later. Did the senior guy ever admit he was wrong or did he just keep giving bad advice?

Nah @taylorcarr, a shed's a shed, close enough usually works fine (and I've never had a call about it).
