That cheap Harbor Freight air compressor I bought for $80 finally gave out after 3 years of heavy use

The motor seized up while I was trying to finish a paint job on a bookshelf, so now I'm looking at a $400 upgrade to a quiet oil-lubed model from Home Depot, anyone got a recommendation for a brand that won't die on me again?

That "finally gave out after 3 years of heavy use" line hits different when you think about it. It's like everything these days is built to die right after you get comfortable with it. I had a blender do the same thing last month, just stopped working mid-smoothie and it was only four years old. Three years of heavy use for an $80 tool though, that's kind of the deal we all make with cheap stuff. You got your money's worth in my opinion, even if it crapped out at a terrible time. The real problem is that $400 air compressor probably won't last three times longer than the cheap one, it'll maybe go five years if you're lucky.

Had a buddy whose coffee maker died exactly one day after the warranty expired. Like it just knew. He still talks about it like it was a betrayal.
