Built a cedar planter box this weekend using a buddy's "just eyeball it" method

My friend Dave said skip the square and level, that it would come out fine. Now one side sits 2 inches higher and the whole thing wobbles on the patio. Has anyone else had a supposedly easy DIY tip completely backfire on them?

Exactly how off is level - is this thing going to dump your plants on the ground the first time a solid gust hits it? Sounds like Dave owes you a case of beer for that "method" failing so hard. Did you try shimming the low side with some composite shingles to at least stop the wobble for now?

Read somewhere that even a quarter inch off can make a cheap shelving unit start walking on a windy day. @leo_campbell, shimming might take the wobble out but that frame is probably still twisted unless you rebuilt the whole bottom. I'd grab a level and a beer and just accept it as a "creative angle" for the plants.
