Wasted 6 hours trying to edit save files with Notepad before finding the right tool
I was trying to change my character's gold in an RPG last weekend. Spent all Saturday afternoon opening up save files in Notepad and messing with random numbers. Nothing worked, kept corrupting my saves. Then a guy on a Discord told me about HxD Hex Editor. Got it done in 5 minutes. Anyone else go through this whole trial and error thing before finding the one simple tool that actually works?

The 6 hour mark though, that's where you really start questioning your life choices. You're right that most people Google it quick, but @the_val, sometimes you just get this stubborn idea in your head that you can brute force something simple. I remember trying to hex edit a Pokemon save back in the day with a plain text editor and wondering why my game kept crashing. The thing is, when you're in that zone you don't want to admit you're wrong and look up the answer. It's like some weird pride thing where you think you're smarter than the file format. But yeah, once you finally swallow that pride and search for "save editor not working" you find the exact thread from 2018 that fixes everything in 2 clicks.

Six hours on save file editing with Notepad... that's rough but honestly, I don't know if it's really that serious. Most people just Google "how to edit RPG save file" and find the tool in two minutes. You went the long way around for sure.
