My attempt to build a floating shelf ended with a hole in the drywall and my dad saying, 'You know, sometimes the best tool is a phone to call someone who knows what they're doing.'

I mean, after I spent $40 on brackets and a level and still managed to hit a stud with the wrong kind of screw, I'm starting to think he might have a point, so what's your most 'should have just called a pro' moment?

Yeah, like @dianab68's friend with the epoxy floor.

Triple the cost seems like an exaggeration.

Remember that whole trend of epoxy river tables? A buddy of mine decided to pour one in his garage, but he didn't get the mold sealed right. He ended up with a lumpy, sticky mess permanently glued to his concrete floor. The cost to fix that floor was about triple what a finished table would have cost.
