Unpopular opinion, those raceway cable covers everyone uses look way worse than just letting cables hang
I saw a friend's setup over the weekend with that plastic trunking stuff running down his wall and honestly the shadows and dust collection made it stand out more than my exposed cables ever do, has anyone else noticed that or am I just being too picky?

Had a buddy who spent three hours installing that stuff, straight as an arrow, then his cat chewed through it the next day trying to get at a spider. He just left the broken bit hanging there with tape on it for six months.

The tape thing is actually pretty common, but it drives me nuts when people do it. That stuff is fiber optic, not copper, so tape won't fix the break unless you have a fusion splicer (which nobody has just lying around). Light leaks out of the break like crazy, so his speeds were probably half of what they should have been for six months. A cheap keystone jack and a pre-terminated patch cable would have cost like 15 bucks and taken ten minutes to swap in. Cats are relentless though, mine once chewed through three HDMI cables before I learned to hide them in conduit. He probably should have just run the cable inside the wall or used steel-armored cable if the cat is that determined.
