Rant: My retargeting campaign tanked after I changed one tiny setting
Last Tuesday I swapped my ad set from broad matching to phrase matching in Google Ads, thinking it would cut wasted spend. Within 48 hours my click-through rate dropped from 2.1% to 0.6% and my cost per conversion went from $14 to $39. I panicked and reverted everything, but the damage was done, my pixel data now feels poisoned for the next week. The frustrating part is that my landing page and creative never changed, only that one toggle. Now I'm second guessing every micro-optimization I read about on here. Has anyone else had a single settings tweak nuke a campaign out of nowhere, and did you just wait it out or rebuild the whole audience list?

Funny how one little switch can be like that, kind of like when you move one plant in your kitchen and suddenly the whole room feels off for a week. You did the right thing by flipping it back, but the real lesson is that these systems hold grudges longer than we expect. Sometimes the smartest move is just to leave everything alone until the dust settles, even if the data looks ugly.
