Local SEO guru who hated content ads now runs them for everyone
For like 3 years I swore display retargeting was a scam for small businesses. Every report I saw looked cherry-picked. Then last month I ran a $400 test for a plumber in Tulsa with just a static banner and a 10 day window. The campaign pulled a 4.2x ROAS on booked calls and I spent a full day double checking the tracking links because I didn't trust it. Has anyone else flipped on a channel they used to trash talk after one solid result, or was I just doing it wrong before?

the tracking setup is almost always the problem when people say retargeting doesnt work. i had the same thing happen with a client in austin, swore up and down that display was trash until we pulled 3.8x on a $300 test for a garage door company. biggest thing i found was that you gotta cap your frequency hard, like 3-4 impressions max per person per day, otherwise you burn them out and they never click. also make sure your pixel fires on the actual thank you page and not just the form submit, that was my mistake the first few times, double counted leads and thought the whole channel was broken.
