Can we talk about the SEO advice I got at a conference in Austin?

I went to this big digital marketing meetup in Austin back in March, and this one speaker was going on about how you absolutely need to update your old blog posts every 6 months or Google will bury you. Everyone in the room was nodding along, taking notes like it was gospel. But I've got a post from 2018 about running shoe care that still pulls in 300 organic visits a month without me touching it once. I think that kind of advice just makes people waste time rewriting stuff that's already working fine. Changing up content just for the sake of it can actually mess up your rankings if you don't know what you're doing. Has anyone else seen their traffic tank after doing a big update on a post that was already ranking?

Updated a 2017 chili recipe once and got punished by Google so hard my grandma unfriended me.

Yeah that's bs. I got better results just leaving my good old posts alone.
