One comment about my photo folders made me rethink everything

I had like 14k photos sitting in a folder called 'Misc' going back to 2016. Was showing a friend something and he said 'how do you ever find anything in here'. Honestly that hit different. Spent the next 3 weekends sorting by year and event names. Found 800 duplicates too. Do you guys use a naming system or just let folders pile up and deal with it later?

Heard a photographer on a podcast say he just dumps everything by month and lets search do the rest. Said trying to come up with clever folder names just made him procrastinate more. Sounds like you got the opposite problem, way too organized is still better than drowning in 'Misc' though.
