A quick talk at a gallery opening fixed my color blindness
I was at a small show in Asheville last Friday, just eyeballing some landscapes that all looked washed out to me. The artist came over and said try looking at the piece's local color, not what your brain thinks grass or sky should be. That one comment snapped something into place, I redid an old forest painting tonight using only observed hues and it finally felt alive. Anyone else have a stranger's offhand line rewire how they see their own work?
Oh wow, I actually read something like this in a book on drawing years ago, about how beginners paint what they know instead of what they see. Cool that a random comment finally made it click for you.
