Finally figured out why my 6.7 Powerstroke kept losing prime after fuel filter changes

I fought with air getting into the system for like 3 months after every filter swap on my 2015 F-350. Tried everything, new O-rings, torquing to spec, even bought a $40 hand pump. Turns out the fuel water separator drain valve was just slightly cracked from a rock strike on a job site near Billings. Snugged it back up and boom, no more priming issues. Anyone else ever had a dumb little thing like that cause a headache?

Respectfully disagree... fuel cap theory gets thrown around too much on these forums.

Buddy of mine back in Idaho had the same headache on his 2012. He'd change the fuel filters and the truck would crank forever before starting. He was ready to drop a grand on a new LPFP. Turns out his fuel cap was bad. Swapped it out for a new one from Napa and the problem went away completely. Stupid little vacuum leak from a $15 part had him chasing his tail for six weekends straight. Sometimes the dumbest stuff really gets you.
