My grocery bill dropped $40 a week after I stopped buying pre-cut vegetables
I used to grab those bags of chopped onions and peppers from the produce section just for convenience. Last month I added up what I was spending on them each week and it was like $15 just for those. Started buying whole onions and bell peppers from the same store and cutting them myself. Takes maybe 10 extra minutes but my total went from around $120 a week to $80. The pre-cut stuff is marked up so much. Has anyone else noticed a big difference just by skipping the prepped produce section?

The way groceries price things is wild when you look closer. Idk if people realize but those pre-cut bags also lose moisture faster so you're paying for water weight that evaporates in a few days. I've noticed whole veggies last way longer in the fridge, like a whole bell pepper stays crisp for a week versus the pre-sliced ones getting slimy after three days. Plus you can buy in bulk when onions and peppers are on sale and just chop them all at once on Sunday. Maybe it's just me but I think the real savings come from not throwing away half a bag of soggy pre-cut stuff. The marked up price plus the waste adds up to way more than $15 a week honestly.

Some of us just don't have the time or energy to chop everything ourselves...
