That "use a password manager" tip I kept ignoring finally saved my butt

I always figured remembering passwords was fine, thought password managers were just for paranoid people. Then last month I got a notification that someone tried logging into my email from a random IP in Vietnam. I had used the same password for like 5 sites. Spent a whole afternoon changing everything, then finally downloaded Bitwarden. Should have done this years ago. Has anyone else had a close call that finally made them switch?

Funny you mention that, but I actually think the opposite... relying on a password manager too much can make you lazy about basic security sense. I still just use a notebook with different patterns for each site, keeps me engaged with what I'm actually typing in.

Bitwarden is solid, I made the same switch after that exact kind of scare. What was the password you were using across those 5 sites? Was it something like your dog's name with a number tacked on, or one of those "clever" patterns like "Password1!" that you thought was unique?
