Stranded in Chicago, I saw public USB ports in a new light
During a long delay at O'Hare, my phone battery was CRITICAL. I almost used a free charging station but remembered a tip about data theft. Instead, I bought a cheap power bank from a kiosk. That small choice probably saved my personal info from being copied.

Data theft from public USB charging is overblown, right?

Honestly, it's part of a bigger thing where we trade a little risk for a lot of convenience. We do it with public wifi all the time, right? The actual chance of someone stealing your data at an airport charger is probably tiny. But it's so easy to just carry a cheap USB plug or a power-only cable. Why even roll the dice on that tiny chance when the fix is that simple? It feels less about the real danger and more about building a habit of paying attention.

But @the_shane, is it really overblown if it happens?

Yeah, that "habit of paying attention" is the real win. It's not about the charger, it's about noticing where you plug in.
