Is using the same password for everything really that bad?

I keep seeing people argue that a strong single password is fine with two-factor authentication, but after my cousin got his email hacked last month because he reused a password from a forum leak, I'm wondering which side is actually right here?

Hang on, let me ask you something: what happens when that one super strong password of yours is the password for an account that leaks it? Then you're using it on your bank and your email and your Twitter all at once. That's not hypothetical, that happened to your cousin. Two-factor auth is great and all but it's not perfect, people get their phones stolen or SIM swap attacks happen. So are you really willing to bet your entire digital life on one single password never getting leaked or cracked?
