Chose a $60 hardware key over free app codes for my logins last month, and now I'm locked out of my own email

I picked the physical key because everyone swore it was safer than app based codes, but I left it in my jacket pocket and my jacket is at my sister's place in Tampa until Sunday, so now I'm staring at a recovery screen wondering if I should've just used the app codes like a normal person.
