Shoutout to the Compaq Deskpro case that fought me for 4 months
Everyone says sleeper builds are easy because old cases have tons of room, but that Compaq Deskpro from 1997 nearly beat me. The 5.25 inch drive cage is riveted in and blocks any card longer than 9 inches, so my RTX 3080 would not fit no matter how I angled it. I drilled out 6 rivets, cut the cage with a Dremel, and then found out the front bezel clips snapped off, which meant another 2 weeks tracking down a parts case on eBay. Has anyone else run into a case where the drive cage quietly kills your GPU clearance, and did you cut it or just switch cases?
