I measured my old beige case and found out it actually cools better than the glass box I almost bought
I was at Micro Center in Chicago two weekends ago and a guy at the case aisle swore up and down that modern airflow cases blow away any old beige tower. So I went home and tested it. I stuffed a 4070 and a 5800X3D into a 1998 Gateway shell with one 80mm fan up front and one 92mm in the back, and the CPU sat at 68C under a full Cinebench run. My brother's mesh panel build with six fans hit 71C on the same chip that same night. Turns out the old case has a huge vented panel on the side and tons of dead space inside, so heat just drifts out. Glass looks great but the numbers say my ugly box is fine. Has anyone else actually logged temps in an old shell, or is it all just vibes about modern airflow?
