Built a sleeper in a 1992 AST Advantage and the thermal tape situation surprised me

I gutted this old beige AST case last month for a Ryzen 5 build, and instead of using standard standoffs, I tried those 3M thermal mounting tapes to hold the motherboard tray in place. It held fine for about a week, worked great, no flex or sag, but then I had to swap the RAM and discovered the tape fused the tray to the case like it was welded on. Took me 45 minutes with a heat gun and a plastic spudger to pry it apart without cracking the old metal. So now I'm torn, is the tape trick worth it for the clean look and zero screw holes, or is the risk of a permanent bond just too dumb for a case you plan to upgrade later? Has anyone else tried adhesive mounting in a sleeper build and regretted it?
