Skipped Cozumel entirely on our 7 day cruise out of Miami and everyone onboard acted like we wasted a port day
We stayed on the ship in Cozumel last month while most folks lined up to tender off and hit the same shops and beach clubs, and we basically had the whole pool deck and 2 bartenders to ourselves. People kept asking why we would skip a port we paid for, like the only way to enjoy a cruise is to get off at every stop. Am I the only one who thinks a quiet sea day with a docked ship is better than fighting crowds for a $40 taxi ride?
The line about having the whole pool deck and two bartenders to yourselves is exactly the kind of thing more people should try before they knock it. We did something like that in Nassau a few years back, not on purpose, my wife just was not feeling great that morning so we waved the rest of our group off and parked ourselves by the pool. Best day of the whole trip. A guy from Jamaica was bartending and he made us these drinks with fresh nutmeg he grated right there, and we talked to him for maybe two hours about his kids and his garden back home. Never would have happened if we had been herded onto a tour bus with forty other people. The funny thing is the folks who give you a hard time about missing a port are usually the same ones who come back complaining about the crowds and the pushy vendors.
