Rant: I skipped the $89 cruise line excursion in Cozumel and just walked off the pier, now I can't decide if I was brave or dumb
Last time we docked in Cozumel I looked at the ship's snorkel tour for $89 a person and decided to just walk past the port gate with my own mask and fins instead. A local guy pointed me to a free beach about a 10 minute walk away and I saw just as many fish for zero dollars, but my wife says I got lucky and could have ended up stranded or unsafe. So which side are you on, is booking the cruise excursion worth the markup for the peace of mind, or do you wing it at port too?

Yep, I do the same thing and honestly the sketchy part is half the fun. But here is the thing your wife is missing: the ship will actually wait for you if you booked through them, so the real question is whether your own two feet can get you back before the gangway pulls up.
