My writing group kept calling everything a 'slice of life' and I finally figured out why it bugs me
Every prompt someone brings to our Tuesday meetup in Portland gets labeled 'slice of life' even when it has a ghost or a heist in it, and I think people just use it when they can't name what the story is actually doing. Am I the only one who thinks that label has turned into a way to avoid saying what the prompt is really about?
