Just realized the old guy on my crew was right about warming up the hydraulics in cold weather
He kept saying "let her idle 10 minutes at 40 degrees or you'll blow a seal" and after watching a guy at the yard in Gary crack a hose on a 28 degree morning, I'm never skipping warmup again, so how cold does it get before you all idle longer than usual?
Man, I had the SAME thing happen to me last winter. Foreman told me to let my old Cat sit for a good fifteen minutes when it was under 30, and I blew him off till I watched a dude snap a return line on a 25 degree morning and dump fluid all over the lot. Now anything below 35 and I'm giving her a solid 15 to 20 minutes, longer if it's single digits. Cheap insurance compared to a busted hose out on a job.
