I drove past the new bridge site in Tacoma and it made me rethink my whole setup.

They had three tower cranes working in a tight triangle, maybe 50 feet apart. I always thought you needed way more space between rigs. Watched for twenty minutes and the coordination was perfect, no radio chatter, just hand signals. It looked like a dance. Anyone else run a job that close with other operators?

Ever see them do that with a barge crane too? Watched a crew in Seattle slot a third crane between two existing ones to set a generator. The signal guy stood on the roof with two flags, one for each operator. Felt like watching a conductor run an orchestra.

Actually saw that exact setup on the Duwamish last year. They were using radios along with the flags, though. The flag signals are mostly backup now for when the comms cut out.
