Hot take: the difference between a bad lift and a smooth lift is literally just 30 seconds of pre-planning on the ground

I watched a guy on a job in San Antonio spend 10 minutes fighting a load with his crawler because he didn't check the tagline angles first, then after lunch he did the same pick with a 2 minute walk-around and it landed like butter on the deck, so I guess that one trick really is the whole game lol has anyone else noticed how much time a quick ground chat saves?

Respectfully disagree a bit here. Most of the time that ground chat is just guys arguing about who's in charge instead of actually looking at the rigging. The real difference is usually the operator having ten years on the sticks and already knowing where the load needs to go before the first whistle blows.

You ever feel like that operator with ten years experience is just me praying nobody notices I'm still figuring out which lever does what?
