Warning: most couch co-op games people praise are secretly terrible for actual couch play
I looked up the co-op setup for a game my buddy kept pushing on me and found out it only does online, not split screen. That one detail killed my whole night. I mean, why do people keep calling stuff couch co-op when you need two consoles and two TVs? I tried setting up a session with my roommate in our tiny apartment in Austin and we spent 45 minutes just figuring out we couldn't share one screen. It was a mess. Maybe it's just me but I think the term got watered down somewhere along the way. Real couch co-op means one screen, two controllers, zero excuses. Has anyone else run into this or am I the only one who checks the box before buying?
And it gets worse when they claim two player but it's really just online with a friend code. I bought a game last month that said co-op on the box and the back said 1 to 2 players. Got it home and the second player has to be on a whole separate system with their own copy. That's not co-op, that's a phone call with extra steps. The worst part is the review sites don't even flag it, they just slap a co-op tag on anything with two players and call it a day. People gotta start saying online co-op or split screen right on the front of the box so nobody wastes a night like you did.
