Hot take: my tablet died in the middle of a concrete pour and I actually liked it
Had a slab pour at a site off Route 9 in Jersey last Thursday and my field tablet just quit at 7:40am with no warning. The app kept locking up anyway, so I pulled out the paper tickets and a pen like it was 1995. Turns out I got the truck counts and yardage logged faster than the guys tapping on screens all morning. Now I'm wondering how much of my software I'm using just because it's there. Anybody else keep a paper backup and end up faster with it?

The Route 9 corridor pours are always a mess, so I get why paper felt good that morning. But one dead tablet on one pour is not proof your whole setup is bloated. I've seen guys write truck counts on tickets and then spend the next day punching it all back into the system anyway, so the time just moved to a different day. Real advantage of paper is it never needs a charge, not that it's faster at the job. If your app was locking up at 7:40, the fix is a better app or a spare tablet, not going back to 1995 for every pour.
