Lost my 40 hour Elden Ring save to a power blink in Tulsa, now I'm the guy with a surge strip

I was about 40 hours into Elden Ring last Tuesday night, sitting in my apartment in Tulsa, when the power flickered for maybe two seconds during a boss fight. My console restarted and my save file was just gone, all that progress wiped because I never set up cloud backups. I sat there for a minute just staring at the menu, then drove to the store the next morning and grabbed a surge protector and an external drive for $70 total. Now I back up every Sunday whether I play or not, and honestly it takes like four minutes. The weird part is my buddy on Xbox had the same thing happen last month with a different game, so it's not a console thing at all, it's just a power thing. Has anyone else lost a big save like this, and did you ever actually go back and replay all those hours?
