A guy at a GameStop in Reno gave me a $5 disc cleaner and it fixed my kid's scratched copy of Mario Kart 8
My son's copy of Mario Kart 8 was so scratched it would not get past the loading screen. A worker at the GameStop on South Virginia Street in Reno asked me for $5 and handed me a little disc cleaning kit instead of selling me a used copy. I figured it was a waste of money but tried it that night, and the game booted right up and has run fine for 3 weeks now. Anyone else had a cheap fix beat buying a replacement, or did I just get lucky with this one?
My father used to fix our VCR with a $3 head cleaner from RadioShack back in 1992, and it worked every single time. The pattern here is that most people replace things way too fast when a small amount of care would do the job. That GameStop guy probably saved you $50 and kept a working game out of the trash.
