Chose a magnesium float over a Fresno on a 900 sq ft driveway in Tulsa, did I mess up?

Had a 900 square foot driveway pour in Tulsa last Friday and my buddy told me to skip the Fresno and just run a mag float for the whole finish. I went with the mag since we were fighting 95 degree heat and it seemed safer for the open time. Now the surface looks a little too open and gritty for my taste and I'm wondering if I should have hit it with the Fresno before the mag. Anyone run into this on big flatwork pours, or is this just how mag finishes read once they cure?
