Bought the $1,800 ride-on trowel over the walk-behind, and my back has opinions
Had a 4,000 sq ft pour in Bakersfield back in March and my old walk-behind finally gave out, so I had to decide between renting a ride-on for the week or buying a used one outright. The rental quote came to about $900 for five days, and a guy I know from the union was selling his 2019 ride-on for $1,800 cash. I went with buying it because the math was close enough and I figured I'd get more pours out of it down the road. First two slabs went great, I could actually finish a 30x30 before the edge got away from me. But getting it on and off the trailer alone is a whole thing, and my knees hate the step up after six hours. Now I'm wondering if I should've just rented per pour and kept the money in my pocket. Anyone here run a ride-on as a one man crew, and do you regret it?

That $900 rental would've kept $900 in your pocket and saved your knees, plus rental yards usually cover the upkeep. Buying used means every breakdown is your problem now, and on a one man crew a down machine is a dead week. Selling it back for close to what you paid and renting per pour is the move.
