Vent: I swore thermal paste was all hype until I saw the 9 degree drop
For a long time I figured paste brand was just marketing noise, since most tubes are 80% the same stuff anyway. Then a guy on a bench repair livestream ran a stock cooler on an old i5 and swapped four pastes side by side, logging core temps with the same fan curve each time. The cheap white stuff and the fancy gray tube were 9 degrees apart under load on the same chip. I re-pasted a client's overheating box on Thursday with what I had ignored for years, and idle temps dropped from 48C to 41C. That changed how I talk to customers about it, for sure. Anyone got a paste test they actually trust, and did the results hold up after a month or two of real use?
