Bought a 'universal' laptop charger that fried a client's motherboard

I grabbed a $25 universal charger from a local shop for a quick repair, thinking it would work fine. It powered on the laptop but sent a voltage spike that cooked the motherboard, costing me $300 to replace it for the client. What's your go-to source for reliable, cheap power adapters that won't ruin everything?

Can't believe you trusted a $25 universal charger with a client's laptop.

Cheap universal chargers are a gamble that rarely pays off.

Wait, you used a universal charger on a client's machine? That's a huge risk I wouldn't take. Those things are never a sure bet for the right voltage. Now you're out way more than you saved.
