That MSP in Denver charges $95 per seat and my boss won't listen
I sat through a sales pitch at a managed service provider office in Denver two months ago and the guy kept saying their flat rate was a steal because they monitor every switch port for you. My boss signed a 3 year deal at $95 per seat, but our old hourly guy charged $140 a visit and we barely called him. Has anyone here actually moved a 40 person office back to break-fix and saved money, or am I crazy for thinking this per seat model is a rip off?
Man, I gotta disagree with you here. $95 a seat for 40 people is about $3,800 a month, and yeah that sounds rough next to a guy who charged $140 a visit, but you were barely calling him, which means nobody was watching anything. One bad ransomware hit or a dead switch at 2am and that hourly guy is billing you for every single hour it takes to dig you out, and that bill can hit five figures fast. Break-fix feels cheaper right up until the day it really isn't. That flat rate is basically insurance, and yeah it stings when nothing breaks, but that's kind of the point.
