I finally counted the drops on our core switch and the number made me sick
Last Thursday I pulled the logs off our main switch in the closet on the third floor and counted 47 link flaps in one day across 6 ports. That's not a busy network, that's a dying cable run or a bad patch job from whoever wired this building before we moved in. I grabbed a tester and two of the runs fail at 60 meters, which means somebody ran cheap cable and stapled it tight against a heating duct. If you run a small office, go count your own port errors before you blame the ISP, because I spent a month yelling at them for nothing. Anyone got a good way to trace runs when the labeling is just sharpie on masking tape?
